Science Article - "DNA perfect for digital storage"
Author: Jonathan Amos

Summary: DNA can be kept in stable format for 1000's of years without electricity or degradation, which allows us to keep information for a LONG time.
Personal thoughts: I think it is interesting to think that the technology used to read (and maybe even the English language will change so much) the information on the DNA will need to be modified to match the technology and the language of the time.

This idea is fascinating -- BUT -- as has happened with 3 1/2 floppy disks, once technology moves ON, information is lost.

Plus -- what if we completely lose the ability to access information that has been stored? We don't need to imagine thermonuclear war or global environmental collapse! How many people reading this could access the information from a 5 1/2 inch floppy disk? How about information stored on a PUNCH CARD? Just wondering!

Agree 100%. It is interesting to think 1000 years from now what peoples record would be us during this time. Will they look at movies and think it is real? Will they be able to understand? With the rate of information creation now, what will stay and what will waste away?
